It always amazes me how we find new and unique items, for Impressions and The Dark Horse like the Activity Book featured here from The Dorset Equine Rescue! One discovery or introduction often leads to another and another ….! It’s such a fun process; meeting new people, networking to find fun products and often times helping to further good causes! It definitely keeps things interesting and motivating since you never know what comes next!
The journey to discovering this latest product started several years ago! It is a fantastic Horsey Coloring and Activity Book from the Dorset Equine Rescue located in Southern Vermont. It was designed by Annie Marchese who was an intern with the organization! I became familiar with the Dorset Equine Rescue (DER) a few years ago at the Equine Affaire in Springfield, Massachusetts. We try taking small breaks at least once a day from working our booth in the Mallory complex to explore the show and see what’s new and exciting in the horse world! During one of these explorations we discovered The Dorset Equine Rescue booth where their volunteers were selling some local Vermont made products. All of proceeds from their sales went directly to the rescue. I bought quite a few as gifts, including a beautiful cutting board engraved with a horse made by JK Adams. We were really impressed by the quality and that they are “Made in the USA”. We immediately ordered two custom designs for the Dark Horse Mercantile and for Impressions.
Fast forward two years and while on a drive over that way through Dorset, VT, I made my normal stop at JK Adams (a super fun stop anytime) and discovered the new Dorset Equine Rescue activity book! I immediately bought a couple copies, went back to the office and reached out to the Rescue folks offering to sell them at our stores! Thanks to the quick response from Jen Staub, the DER founder and director, the books were delivered to our door by Karen (a volunteer) in a matter of days. The book is really well designed with lots of activities and coloring pages, appropriate for any age! We’re hoping to sell lots of copies to help continue their great work.
The Dorset Equine Rescue was founded in 2012 by Jen Staub with the adoption of two miniature horses Duke and Daisy. This adoption opened her eyes to the reality too many animals face far more often that many of us may realize. As stated on their FB page “The Dorset Equine Rescue Inc is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization located in the beautiful Green Mountains of Dorset Vermont and was founded in 2012. Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home abused, neglected and slaughter bound horses.”
Jen has gathered a hard working group of volunteers, people who want the best for any animals that end up in bad situations whether by circumstances or abuse. They have helped to rescue countless animals – check out the website for more details and opportunities to help and also their Facebook page to see their current rescue efforts. And be sure to stop in and check out this great book!
