Meet Alexa Benware, one of the wonderful individuals that make up our Impressions “family”. I think that Alexa became part of the family long ago, when her Mom brought her to work at her shop after school just up the block from us. When she was old enough, Alexa was allowed to come the few doors down to visit, always with eyes on her as she made the trek one way or the other! It takes a village!!!
Alexa has a very sutle sense of humor that often used to catch us by surprise since she is always a diligent and serious worker! Her sense of honesty and her work ethic make her an ideal team member but her personality is what makes her shine! She is a pleasure to be around and it has been a fun journey seeing her develope into the confident young woman she has become. We can’t wait to see where life takes her!
When did you start working at Impressions?
I started working at Impressions around spring 2016, when I was a sophomore in high school.
What made you want to work for Impressions?
I’ve lived in Saratoga my entire life, and I’ve visited Impressions ever since I was a small child. My mom used to own a clothing store right on Broadway, and I got to spend a lot of time exploring all of the small businesses, which is how I came to know Mare and Impressions! I instantly fell in love with the store, I always participated in the coloring contests, and I would always beg my mom to buy me the Saratoga-themed snow globes. To this day, I still have a few Impressions snow globes that are well over ten years old, and I’m so glad I’ve kept them! When I decided that I was ready for my first job, I knew that Impressions was the place for me.
Do you go to school and if yes, where and what year?
I will be graduating from Saratoga Springs High School this June, and I’m very excited to announce that I am officially committed to Penn State University with a major in architecture!
What do you want to be when you “grow up”?
I’ve known for a few years now that I want to go into the field of architecture when I grow up. There are so many career possibilities out there, I can’t wait to start discovering it all in college.
What is something that we may not know about you?
I absolutely love musical theatre, both watching and performing. I’ve been a member of my school’s drama club for all four years, and I am bittersweet to be performing in my final show with the club this spring. I also love traveling, and I will be leaving the country for my first time this June to travel to Germany, Switzerland, and Austria for a week. Also, many of my ancestors are originally from these countries, so I’ll really have a strong personal connection to where I’m going!
What is your favorite Impressions memory or story?
My favorite Impressions memory would have to be working the booth we had set up during the NYC Ballet performances at SPAC my first summer working here. So many people enjoyed the products Impressions carried specifically for the ballet. I also got to see glimpses of the performances, and it was a very unique experience that I will never forget.
What is something unexpected that surprised you at Impressions?
Something I never expected working at Impressions is the number of times I’d be walking downtown and I run into dogs and their owners who are frequent visitors to Impressions! It’s nice seeing friendly faces almost everywhere I go now, and I really feel a stronger connection to my hometown. I also never expected to work in a place with people who felt like family to me. I’ll even stop by even when I’m not working just to catch up and say hello to everybody! We really are like a family here.
What is your favorite thing at Impressions?
Nearly everybody at the store knows that I have an obsession with the funny Blue Q socks that we sell. Socks with swear words on them seem to fit my personality quite well I guess!
